Panoramic Views of Scotland

   Hello  My name's Maria

I would like to share some of my thoughts on my struggles as an artist.  I was always drawing things from a very early age

if I could see it, be it a tree, house, cat, dog, etc it either got painted or drawn nothing escaped my attention in my search    to find a suitable subject.   Personally, I find landscape my best subject with the many different challenges it presents as    opposed to portrait painting or animals.   I love the sky and the sea with their constant change of mood, and  the many  different shades and tones they present.  Although it is a never ending and uphill struggle, getting the painting right, tonal  values and perspective is only part of it.   An even bigger struggle lies in getting noticed.   I would take my paintings to a  few  of the local galleries when I lived in Manchester and ask them would they be interested in displaying my work, but  alas the  answer was always the same, they would keep me on file.   I then approached the local libraries and after many  years began  to have quite a  few successes selling my paintings, at that time I began to get  a few commissions on the  strength of those  sales.   But, after a  few more years the sales began to dry up and some of the libraries changed their  rules on exhibits.   At  that point I decided to go  further afield and presented my paintings on the cornish coast in St Ives  which is an Artist's  paradise and has around forty galleries.  I exhibited in three of them and from then on continued to  have further sales and  success.  Please feel free to comment as I would love to have your views and value them very much.  Hope you've enjoyed reading this.
